Fairchild Semiconductor will furlough 850 employees at its facilities in South Portland for a week in March because of a slowdown in demand for its products.
The semiconductor manufacturer furloughed employees for a week in January, another in February and a spokeswoman for the company said there could be another week-long furlough in April because of a slowdown in the microchip industry, according to Portland news station WCSH 6.
Fairchild employs roughly 1,000 people between its South Portland offices and manufacturing facility.
