Richard Freund of Portland was appointed Wednesday as the deputy commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor.
Freund moves into the post vacated by Jeanne Paquette, who became the department’s leader earlier this year.
Freund comes to the position after three years working in the department as the manager of the York County CareerCenter in Springvale and a previous position as the senior research analyst with the State Workforce Investment Board, according to a press release.
Freund, a New York native, previously spent 16 years as a manager at Citicorp — now Citigroup — and then became VP and general manager of a Swedish-owned emergency service and manufacturing company in Massachusetts.
He later started his own emergency service company, which was sold to a German corporation two years later, the release states.
Freund starts in his new post on Oct. 22.
