No bar exam needed

Under the state’s newly expanded reciprocal admission rule, attorneys in good standing from out of state can become admitted to the Maine Bar without taking the Maine Bar exam if they meet these requirements:

  • Worked full time in the practice of law for five of the past seven years in states depicted in accompanying map (opposite page)
  • Worked full time in the practice of law for three years in Vermont or New Hampshire
  • Complete 15 hours of classes specific to Maine law
  • Pay a $955 fee to the Maine Board of Bar Examiners and the National Council of Bar Examiners
