The future of Bucksport’s mill remains unclear under its new ownership by scrap metal company AIM Development, but two state agencies are now pressing for details.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the Maine Public Utilities Commission has asked AIM to disclose its plans for the mill’s adjacent biomass generators by March 13. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection, on the other hand, has asked for details regarding AIM’s plan to create an on-site landfill.
AIM hasn’t elaborated on its future plans for the former Verso Paper mill, but representatives have previously said they would consider reselling it to a papermaker. They have also said the site is being considered as a permanent recycling facility.
