NewPage braces for cuts

A spokesman for the NewPage Corp. paper mill in Rumford confirmed that a companywide cutback in production would affect the local mill, but would not provide specifics.

Miamisburg, Ohio-based NewPage announced earlier this month that it would cut production by 150,000 tons in the first quarter because of a decline in orders and stockpiled inventory, according to the Sun Journal. Besides the Rumford mill, which employs 1,000, NewPage operates mills in Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nova Scotia.
