Rescinding an earlier announcement, a national call outsourcing company’s Orono location will not hire 400 temporary workers.
In a press release, the Maine Department of Labor announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which had contracted with NexxLinx to handle disaster relief request calls in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, halted the hiring due to a lower than anticipated need for disaster assistance.
The state agency announced that FEMA has put a hold on the contract it issued earlier in the week to NexxLinx and hiring for those expected positions has stopped.
Hiring for those positions was to have taken place, in part, at the Bangor CareerCenter.
Despite the Veterans Day holiday, the department scheduled that career center to remain open today to provide alternative career assistance to people interested in the NexxLinx opportunity.
