Nominations open for Maine’s ‘most endangered’ historic places

Maine Preservation is calling for nominations for its 2026 Most Endangered Historic Places list.

To be eligible, a property must be culturally, historically and/or architecturally significant, at least 50 years old, substantially threatened and able to be rehabilitated and reused.

A property should also be supported by a local group advocating for its future to partner with Maine Preservation.

The organization has released its list of Maine’s Most Endangered Historic Places since 1996, with the aim of boosting local efforts to preserve threatened properties throughout the state.

Previous listings have included bridges, mill buildings, churches, clock towers, schools and even whole neighborhoods.
