A Maine nonprofit focused on homebuyer education has received financial support to continue its work helping residents navigate the often-complicated process of home buying.
HoMEworks, which has provided homebuyer education for more than 25 years, received a $2,500 contribution from Norway Savings Bank to serve as a gold sponsor of the program.
“HoMEworks creates more confident home buyers who, in turn, can make better, informed decisions throughout the process,” said Darci Hamm, chief operating officer of Norway Savings and a board member at HoMEworks. “Participants receive the tools and guidance to select and secure a home that meets their individual and familial needs and matches their financial resources.”
The HoMEworks board also includes representatives from Maine Association of Mortgage Professionals, Maine Association of Realtors, Maine Bankers Association, Maine Community Action Association, Maine Credit Union League and MaineHousing.
The education program

The eight-hour HoMEworks class offers guidance on understanding credit, managing finances, the associated costs with purchase and ownership, shopping for a home, finding the right real estate agent and lender, mortgage options, special programs for first-time buyers and how to manage finances after the purchase.
Participants who complete the course receive a certificate that meets the education requirements for many mortgage programs. Classes are not limited to first-time buyers.
“The program provides education and assistance, of course, but also hope to those questioning their readiness for home ownership,” said Dan Walsh, president and CEO of NSB. “HoMEworks has made a real difference since 1998, and we’re proud to support its efforts and continuing impact.”
Norway Savings Bank has 24 branches and was ranked No. 8 among the largest Maine-based banks, with assets of $2.05 billion as of June 30, 2025, according to the 2026 Mainebiz Book of Lists.
