Norway Savings Bank has donated $2,500 to the women’s leadership institute created by former U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine.
Since 2015, the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute has delivered a program to support and encourage high school girls to become leaders in their families, careers and communities.
The organization has grown from serving 45 girls in seven schools in Androscoggin County to serving 570 girls in 38 schools across all 16 counties in Maine. Thousands of young women have participated over the past 10 years.
Mainebiz honored Snow in 2025 with a Business Leader of the Year lifetime achievement award.
“Norway Savings Bank is one of our most valued partners, a reflection of the genuine commitment NSB’s entire team brings to our mission and to the young women we serve,” said Tessa Solomon, development specialist at the leadership institute and an alumni.
The bank was a founding sponsor of the leadership institute, and continues to support it through volunteerism.
“It’s an aspirational organization, raising the confidence and resilience of high school girls throughout Maine,” said Dan Walsh, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank.
Snowe served in the U.S. Senate from 1995 to 2013. Prior to that, she was in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1995.
The Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute was founded in 2015.
The nonprofit had revenue of $1.5 million in the most recent year tracked by GuideStar, according to the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists.
“The Institute is immensely fortunate to have such a strong network of people who believe that our work will help more high school-aged girls develop and increase their confidence and leadership skills,” said Snowe.
“Not only are these young women acquiring the skills to be successful in their lives,” Snowe said, “but businesses and organizations are benefitting directly from their leadership as they graduate from the program and enter the workforce.”
