Ocean State Job Lot has signed an agreement to buy a 94,000-square-foot Rockland building now occupied by Walmart.
The Bangor Daily News reported the company has signed a purchase and sale agreement for the property but the deal is not yet final.
David Sarlitto, director of marketing for the company, told the paper that the close-out retailer hopes to open in Rockland by spring of 2014.
The project would be the company’s fifth store in Maine and its latest acquisition of a former Walmart property. The company most recently took over a Walmart building in Derry, N.H., the paper reported.
Walmart is expected to vacate its Rockland store and open a Supercenter store in neighboring Thomaston this fall.
