Giri Hotel Management LLC, a hotel management firm headquartered in Quincy, Mass., completed extensive renovations of two properties in the coastal York County town of Ogunquit.
Meadowmere Resort, built in 1983, is at 74 Main St. The Driftaway Hotel & Pool, built in 1984, is two miles to the north at 719 Main St. Both are part of the company’s Ogunquit Resort Collection.
Giri acquired the Driftaway in 2019 and the Meadowmere in 2020, a spokesperson told Mainebiz.
The company worked with Amesbury, Mass.-based design company Elder & Ash on the interior design and concept.
The newly renovated accommodations and amenities are open.
In addition to the Meadowmere and the Driftaway, the Ogunquit Resort Collection includes Anchorage by the Sea, Juniper Hill Inn, Union Bluff Hotel & Meeting House, Gorges Grant Hotel and Ogunquit River Inn & Suite.
Meadowmere
The 144-key Meadowmere remained open throughout the renovations, which included updated furnishings, contemporary finishes and “a cohesive aesthetic that reflects the relaxed coastal character of Ogunquit,” according to a news release. The revamp encompassed all guestrooms and suites, an apartment, spa, fitness center, and indoor and outdoor pools.
“Our goal was to honor the history and spirit of Meadowmere while creating an experience that meets the expectations of today’s traveler,” said Ryan Amin, a Giri partner.
Meadowmere typically attracts multi-generational families returning to Ogunquit, couples looking for a New England getaway, repeat guests who haven’t visited since the renovation, adults age 45-plus with higher disposable income seeking a full-service resort experience and shoulder-season travelers interested in wellness, relaxation and walkability, the spokesperson said.
The project was the first phase of a larger property-wide enhancement initiative. Phase 2, expected to wrap up later this fall, will introduce renovated public spaces including the resort lobby, movie theater and game room and the debut of a restaurant called Meadow & Tide.
Driftaway
The Driftaway project is a revamp of the former Ogunquit Hotel & Suites. It’s positioned as a “classic summer getaway” and has Ogunquit’s largest hotel pool, retro-inspired design, colorful accommodations and private cabanas.
Renovations encompassed the guestrooms, suites and public spaces, along with the introduction of a refreshed brand identity that drew inspiration from mid-century motor lodges and classic poolside resorts.
The target market includes millennials and Gen X couples; young families seeking amenities like a large pool and access to the beach; road trippers from New England and drive markets like Boston, Portland, New Hampshire, Connecticut and New York; and travelers who have visited Ogunquit before and are looking for something new.
The 86-key property was transitioned to a seasonal model for spring, summer and fall operation.
“Our vision was to capture the feeling of the great American summer road trip and reimagine it for today’s traveler,” said Amin.
