The owner of a tree service company in West Gardiner was killed Friday afternoon when he made contact with a live utility wire while clearing tree growth around power lines. Ronald Hickey, owner of Hickey Tree Service, was in a boom truck at the time of the accident, according to the Kennebec Journal.
His company is one of five businesses with which Central Maine Power Co. contracts to keep trees clear from power lines. At the time of the accident, Hickey was working with Lucas Tree Experts on Spears Corner Road. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the incident.
Hickey who was 53, lived his whole live in West Gardiner, according to the paper.
