Pumpkin spice isn’t the only seasonal flavor Maine brewers concoct with their autumn beers, and the Newcastle-based Oxbow Brewing is making a strong showing with its “Oxtoberfest” making Bloomberg’s list of the best American Oktoberfest beers of 2016.
So what should beer-lovers look for in an Oktoberfest brew? According to All About Beer Magazine, in North America, the seasonal beer is known for its deep amber hue and “toasted malty sweetness,” which is accented with a creamy spiciness.
Bloomberg lauded Oxbow’s annual Oxtoberfest for packing a “malt-forward flavor [that] finishes dry with an earthy smoke character in the periphery.” Oxtoberfest was also named easily the “most bizarre — and possibly most delicious — beer” on a list that included such heavy-hitter California breweries as Sierra Nevada and Firestone Walker.
