Oxford casino backers have no plans for ME

The Las Vegas company that led the failed Oxford county casino effort is unlikely to pursue similar projects in Maine anytime soon.

Dean Harrold, vice chairman of Olympia Gaming, said the company doesn't have any plans to try to open another casino in Maine, according to the Sun Journal. Olympia Gaming bought Evergreen Mountain Enterprises in September from attorney Seth Carey. Carey had spearheaded the effort to bring a casino to Oxford County and had gathered enough signatures to put the matter to voters. Voters rejected the casino 54% to 46% earlier this month.

Harrold, who had never been to Maine before his company got involved in the Oxford county effort, was surprised the measure lost, saying internal polling had shown the casino ahead prior to Election Day, the paper reported.
