The owner of Oxford Casino, Churchill Downs, has proposed an expansion that would double the restaurant and bar capacity of the casino, in addition to adding a 106-room hotel on three upper floors above the casino and a first-floor 275-seat multipurpose room.
The Oxford Planning Board recently voted to table a decision on the project until its May 12 meeting, according to the Advertiser Democrat.
“This is a tremendous amount of information to digest here,” board member Dennis Fournier told the Advertiser Democrat. “I need time to read this so I can make an intelligent decision.”
Civil engineer Robert Berry, of the Livermore Falls-based Main-Land Development Consultants, told the board the company would like to begin construction in August with a possible “soft opening” slated for April 2017.
