Oxford Dragway, which has showcased drag racing since 1969, faces an uncertain future after canceling its 2014 season due to declining revenues and personnel issues.
The Sun Journal reported that the company posted a notice about the season’s cancellation to its website on May 30, stating that the employee responsible for the dragway’s scoring system had resigned and that proper help was not available.
Mike Mayberry, Oxford Dragway’s president, told the newspaper the company had considered closing last season because of declining revenues, but felt confident at the time that changes could increase dwindling attendance numbers. He said the company hasn’t decided whether or not to remain closed for next year.
