Oxford hooks up first business

Oxford Networks has connected its first business to its new 35-mile fiber network in the Bangor-Brewer area.

State and local dignitaries were at the Challenger Learning Center in Bangor on Tuesday to celebrate the hook-up.

Gov. John Baldacci commended the more than $4 million project, which will link Bangor and Brewer to Oxford’s 600-mile fiber network reaching to Boston. “Expanding and improving broadband communications in Maine is one of the cornerstones of this state’s economic future,” he was quoted as saying in a press release.
