A Kentucky woman may become president of the University of Maine at Augusta.
Richard Pattenaude, chancellor of the University of Maine System, yesterday recommended Allyson Hughes Handley as the new president of UMA, according to a press release. Handley currently is a policy advisor for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. She also has served as president of colleges in Kentucky and California.
The UMS Board of Trustees will consider Pattenaude’s recommendation at its meeting Jan. 14, 2008. If it approves the appointment, Handley will begin March 1, 2008, with a starting salary of $137,000.
