Alaska-based Peninsula Airways will take over service at the Presque Isle airport beginning in June. PenAir will also join with Cape Air to provide service at the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport, beginning later this week.
PenAir will operate three nonstop flights per weekday between Northern Maine Regional Airport and Boston’s Logan International Airport, according to the Bangor Daily News. It will operate two flights a day on the weekends. PenAir’s first flight will run the evening of June 14, and full service begins June 15. The company’s introductory one-way fare will be $115.30 including tax. Service in Trenton begins May 24.
Colgan Air in September announced that it would petition the U.S. Department of Transportation to end its service between the northern and Down East airports and Boston and Plattsburg, N.Y., as part of a strategic move to reduce service at the Boston hub. The DOT in March selected PenAir and Cape Air to continue the service.
