A poll released yesterday by the Portland-based Pan Atlantic SMS Group found that more of the Maine voters it surveyed oppose, rather than support, a casino.
Of the 400 people sampled, 47.8% said they did not support a proposed casino for Oxford County versus 35.5% who said they would vote for the four-season casino resort, the Sun Journal reported.
The latest poll follows a June 29 casino survey that showed only 29% of those sampled said they would vote for a casino. Since then, Las Vegas-based Olympia Gaming purchased the local company pursuing the casino, Evergreen Mountain Enterprises, and spent more than $500,000 on its campaign to sway Maine voters, the paper reported.
