Convenience stores across the country will honor first responders this Friday during the eighth annual 24/7 Day, an event organized by the National Association of Convenience Stores Foundation.
More than 30,000 stores nationwide are participating in the “Serving Up Thanks” campaign, offering free items and promotions to first responders and American Red Cross volunteers who show a valid badge or arrive in uniform.
The event recognizes the year-round work of those who respond to emergencies and serve communities.
“We know first responders don’t do it for recognition—they do it because they genuinely care about people,” Kevin O’Connell, executive director of the NACS Foundation, told Mainebiz.
“Every year, we gather as an industry to honor this commitment because we see firsthand the sacrifice, dedication and bravery it takes to run toward an emergency when the rest of us are evacuating or fleeing. This is an important moment to recognize those who keep us safe.”
In Portland and surrounding areas, here’s what’s on offer this Friday:
- Cumberland Farms: Free coffee or a fountain drink (any size) to eligible first responders, health care workers and military service members.
- Circle K: First responders can visit participating stores nationwide for a free hot dog, cookie and Polar Pop.
- Alltown: Uniformed first responders, military personnel and medical professionals can enjoy complimentary coffee or water at any store every day of the year.
