On Monday, Portland city councilors unanimously voted to approve a lease agreement with Bay Ferries Ltd. to resume ferry service between the city and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
The Portland Press Herald reports that the Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island-based ferry company will pay the city $150,000 for the next two years to operate the ferry service from June 1 to Oct. 15, with the option for the city to renew the lease for an additional year.
“I think it’s an opportunity for the city,” City Councilor Nicholas Mavodones told the Press Herald. “I think it’s good we’re able to have ferry service here on our city waterfront.”
