The Portland Planning Board has approved the $85 million, long-in-the-making “midtown” project in the city’s Bayside neighborhood, but with a major condition.
The Bangor Daily News reported that Miami-based developer Federated Cos. received subdivision and conditional site plan approvals on Tuesday for its plan to build four, six-story buildings that will offer apartments and parking and retail space. The project has been scaled down considerably since it was first proposed.
Before the developer can move forward, it must resubmit building designs for its Midtown Building Three to the board, meaning the developer has at least one more meeting to go. The board is asking Federated to visually break up the building, which one board member described as a “430-foot-long, almost monolithic behemoth.”
