The Portland City Council has approved zoning changes for a developer’s plan to transform a 10-acre site on Portland’s eastern waterfront into a mixed-used development.
The Forecaster reported that the zoning changes for CPB2’s project at the Portland Co. complex at 58 Fore St. is far from its last hurdle. The development now faces opposition in the form of a referendum drive from the resident-led Soul of Portland group.
The Soul of Portland group is seeking a referendum that, if approved by Portland voters, would protect the site’s scenic views. Jim Brady, one of CPB2’s partners, said the referendum’s approval would kill the development, which is estimated to create 325 full-time jobs and provide housing for nearly 400 people.
