Portland Pie Co. will close its Westbrook restaurant at 869 Main St. after its final day of service on Friday, Sept. 25, ending two decades of business in the city.
The company announced the closure on social media Thursday, saying its lease was nearing its end and another restaurant approached the company about taking over the space. Portland Pie did not identify the restaurant.
Owner and CEO Jeff Perkins said the company decided to step aside and make way for a new tenant, while supporting the growth of downtown Westbrook's restaurant scene.
The closure ends Portland Pie's 20-year run in Westbrook. Over the years, the restaurant became a regular stop for local families, longtime customers and community groups.
"This was not an easy decision," said Perkins. "To everyone who has walked through our doors over the past two decades: thank you. Thank you to the Westbrook community for welcoming us and supporting us for 20 years. And especially, thank you to our incredible Westbrook team, past and present, who made this restaurant what it is."
Perkins said all current Westbrook employees have been offered jobs at one of the eight other Portland Pie locations. The company also hopes to possibly return to the city in the future.
