Portland to pay $1.2M to ferry line

The Portland City Council agreed this week to pay a $1.2 million settlement to Scotia Prince Cruises Ltd., which offered ferry service between Portland to Nova Scotia until 2004.

The City Council on Monday voted unanimously to pay the ferry line $1.2 million out of its cash reserves, a fee set by an outside arbitrator. In its claim against the city, the cruise line said mold growth at the terminal caused its business to fail, leading it to cancel service between Portland to Nova Scotia, according to Portland news station WCSH6.

City officials deny that mold hurt the ferry's business, the station reported.
