More than 60 people will lose their jobs in Presque Isle after the Sears retail and auto center, one of the largest tenants of the Aroostook Centre Mall, closes next year.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the store’s tentative closing date is Jan. 18, with a company official citing the need to “reduce ongoing expenses, adjust our asset base and accelerate the transformation of our business model.”
The store’s 63 employees were told about the upcoming closure on Wednesday. No other Sears or Kmart stores in Maine are currently set to close.
