The Portland Press Herald is planning to cut 40 jobs, including some managers and union members.
The Portland Newspaper Guild was notified this week that the paper plans to shrink its work force by 15% due to declining revenues, The Associated Press reported. Guild Administrative Officer Kathy Munroe said the company will begin by offering buyouts, but will conduct layoffs if not enough people leave voluntarily.
Press Herald Editor and Publisher Richard Connor told The AP the newspaper “is feeling the effect of the economy like everyone else.”
