The Maine Public Utilities Commission is close to reaching a deal over a long-term power purchasing agreement with a wind project in Somerset County.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the PUC voted 2-1 on Wednesday to continue negotiations with wind developer NextEra, with Chairman Mark Vannoy dissenting. Commissioners Carlisle McLean and David Littell are seeking to change the terms regarding how much risk NextEra or the utility buying its electricity would bear.
NextEra’s wind deal was one of two reopened for negotiations earlier this year — a decision that sparked controversy and prompted wind developer SunEdison to withdraw its bid.
