The charitable arm of the Maine Association of Realtors awarded $185,000 to 20 nonprofits working to address housing needs for low-income individuals and households across the state.
Sixteen organizations received $10,000 grants, including four Habitat for Humanity offices. The funds will support home repairs and help cover construction costs for the Compass Point neighborhood project in Rockland.
Other grantees include the Families First Community Center in Ellsworth, to provide rental payments and fuel assistance for its seven-unit transitional housing community; Caring Unlimited in Sanford, to sustain expanded emergency domestic violence shelter capacity; New Beginnings in Lewiston, to help homeless youth transition to stable housing; United Way of Aroostook in Presque Isle, to provide emergency utility assistance; and Partners for Peace in Bangor, to defray housing costs for survivors of domestic violence.
Four organizations, from Ellsworth to Kennebunkport, received grants up to $7,000, for home repairs and emergency heating assistance.
“As Realtors, we are committed to being part of the solution — supporting the local organizations who are building stronger communities, expanding access to housing, and creating pathways to a safer, more stable future for all Mainers,” said Andrea Page, a broker with Keller Williams Realty in Portland who chairs the Maine Association of Realtors Foundation.
