Realtors assist with Habitat for Humanity project in Standish

Members of the Greater Portland Board of Realtors volunteered this month for a full day of hands-on work at the Hunters’ Haven development in Standish with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland.

The crew of 11, which included local real estate professionals and industry affiliates, spent the day hauling materials, doing site cleanup, prepping interiors and painting homes under construction.

Hunters’ Haven is a 24-lot subdivision off of Nature’s Way — part of the Wildlands subdivision originally developed by Peter Busque — where 12 parcels are reserved for households that qualify for affordable home ownership. Applications have closed, and the final six homeowners are pending selection.

The project is made possible through financing from USDA Rural Development’s 502 Direct Loan Program, along with a land grant from MaineHousing.

“Days like this are a reminder that real estate isn’t just about transactions, it’s about people, stability and community. We’re proud to support Habitat’s mission,” said Yvonne Myer, president of the Greater Portland Board of Realtors.

The organization has one to two Habitat build days annually, but now has expanded its commitment in 2026 with four scheduled volunteer days.

In addition to assisting with labor for Habitat, in October 2025, GPBR raised $47,385 for the nonprofit, which included a matching grant from the Maine Association of Realtors Foundation.
