Federal regulators have officially included a 78% cut to the Gulf of Maine cod catch in its new rules for the 2013 fishing year.
MPBN reported the cuts became official this week as this year’s fishing season gets under way.
Fishermen who drag for groundfish like cod and flounder have said the new restrictions will decimate the industry while regulators say the cuts are necessary to replenish struggling fish stocks.
