A report released yesterday by the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce shows Portland plays a key role in the state’s economy.
The report, “Looking Out for Portland and the Region,” claims the city generates almost 43% of the gross state product, more than 44% of Maine’s total personal income and more than 42% of jobs in the state.
Charles Colgan, an economist at the University of Southern Maine, told the Portland Press Herald it shows the state is moving toward a more urban-based economy. The report was commissioned by the chamber and conducted by PolicyOne Research in Scarborough, according to a press release. The full report can be read here.
