The Hollywood Casino in Bangor and the Oxford Casino in Oxford have created nearly 1,500 jobs, according to a new industry study.
The study, commissioned by the American Gaming Association, said Maine’s two casinos have created about 800 direct jobs and about 300 indirect jobs through vendors and suppliers, according to the Associated Press. The spending power of casino employees have created an additional 300 jobs.
The study said Maine’s unemployment rate would rise from 5.8% to 6.4% if it weren’t for the jobs created by Maine’s two casinos.
The Associated Press noted that Maine’s Passamaquoddy tribe is seeking to push for a third casino in Washington County.
