Rising Tide Brewing Co. in Portland is the only Maine-based company to join nearly 380 other companies in urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn state bans on same-sex marriage.
The Portland Press Herald reported that the brewery has signed its name alongside The Coca-Cola Co., Microsoft Corp. and other large corporations in an amicus brief filed Thursday. The Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments in late April on whether the Fourteenth Amendment requires states to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Maine since Dec. 29, 2012, but it is still banned in 13 states.
