Riverview troubles continue

Employees of Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta have concerns about persistent staffing issues that can lead to mandatory overtime and not enough staff on the floor with patients, the Associated Press reported.

Republican state Sen. Roger Katz organized a forum for employees this week so lawmakers could get a better understanding of work conditions at Riverview. Lawmakers from both parties attended the forum.

Riverview is a 92-bed acute care inpatient psychiatric hospital operated by the state. In 2013, the hospital lost millions of dollars in federal funding when its federal certification was revoked due to safety violations.

Mental health worker Shelby Moreau said she was mandated to work 16 hours on a recent Saturday, followed by 16 hours on Sunday.
