Rockland Main Street Inc. on Monday announced that Gordon Page Sr. will step down as executive director in early 2020Â to retire after five years in that role.

The downtown advocacy group, which has its office at 417 Main St. in the midcoast town, said that Page had notified its board of directors last December of his intention to retire.
Rockland Main Street also said it had already set up a search committee and plans to search for a successor “locally, statewide and beyond.” The group said it’s in the process of coming up with a recruitment plan.
Page, an elected member of the Owls Head Select Board, has lived in the midcoast region for nearly 40 years, arriving in 1982 as director of quality assurance and product integrity at National Sea Products, a frozen seafood manufacturer then located on the Tilllson Avenue waterfront.
Before joining Rockland Main Street, Page held executive management positions in the media, hospitality tourism and transportation sectors, and owned a small marketing and public relations business.
Rockland Main Street is one of 10Â nationally accredited Main Street Communities in Maine, and is a focused partnership of residents, businesses and local government that works to enhance the sense of place and economic vitality of downtown Rockland.Â
The organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group, is affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Maine Development Foundation.
Jake Miller, president of Rockland Main Street, said that while the board is sorry to see Page leave, its members are glad he gave plenty of notice so that they have time to find a qualified replacement.
