The Roux Institute was first launched at an event in January 2020, with a gift of $100 million from David and Barbara Roux. That was later followed by another $100 million earmarked for scholarships, from the Harold Alfond Foundation.

Now, it takes another step with the construction of its future campus on the Portland waterfront. For our cover story, Staff Writer Tina Fischer gets the first-hand look at construction of the new headquarters, which is already taking its place on the Portland skyline.

Maine’s largest deal?
A list of Maine’s largest commercial property sales has one of the largest deals of the past decade. The deal involving 2 Conway St., a Freeport apartment complex, came in at $57 million. Someone in the Mainebiz office asked if that was the largest real estate transaction Maine has seen. I didn’t have an immediate answer, but dug through nearly a decade’s worth of the Mainebiz Book of Lists. We had to go back to the 2018 Book of Lists to find the sale of 62 MacArthur Circle, a South Portland apartment complex with 620 units. It sold for $87.5 million.
