Sawmill heads to Siberia

A defunct sawmill in Bingham has been dismantled and is on its way to Siberia.

Equipment and pieces of the former Morgan Lumber Co. sawmill have been shipped to Russia, following a foreclosure on the property, according to the Kennebec Journal.  The mill once employed 75 and manufactured framing lumber for the housing industry until it closed in 2006. Tom Morgan, who owned the mill for more than 10 years, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy last year, revealing assets of $1.5 million and debts of $1.9 million, according to the paper.

A bank holding company in Canada with a lien on the property foreclosed and sold the mill to an unnamed Russian company, according to the paper.
