A health care practice in Scarborough is looking to simplify the administrative intricacies of conventional primary care.
Dr. Kelsey McDonald leased 2,500 square feet in a 14,000-square-foot medical office building at 144 U.S. Route 1 in Scarborough to introduce her practice, Coastline Direct Primary Care.
Andrew Ingalls of Malone Commercial Brokers brokered the transaction.
The property was marketed as having a campus-like setting that’s near Maine Medical Center’s Scarborough campus and convenient to I-295.

McDonald said her practice will be a departure from the conventional fee-for-service model.
“The idea is really to simplify primary care outside of the insurance world,” she said.
The conventional health care system is burdened with administrative complexities, resulting in delayed and fragmented care, she said.
Coastline Direct Primary Care aims to address the problem by offering patients a direct relationship with McDonald through a monthly membership fee.
Fees advertised on the website range from $75 to $130 per person, depending on age, and $400 for college students per semester. Non-member services are also on tap.

McDonald is a board-certified family medicine physician with over eight years of clinical experience. Employment includes Martin’s Point Health Care in Scarborough since 2018.
The model, she said, also has benefits for small businesses, which can contract with Coastline to offer affordable and accessible primary care services.
The medical office space at 144 U.S. Route 1 will undergo significant renovations that will potentially accommodate additional health care providers. The practice is scheduled to open in early March.
