Coming off a strong growth year, South Portland engineering firm Sebago Technics expanded its land surveying capabilities with the acquisition of K & K Land Surveyors Inc. in the Kennebec County town of Oakland.
The deal expands Sebago’s survey services across Kennebec County and central Maine.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Surveyor shortage
K & K has served property owners throughout Kennebec County and surrounding communities for nearly five decades. The firm, led by owner and licensed professional land surveyor Verne Pinney, offered boundary surveys, subdivision work and lot surveys across the central Maine–Belgrade Lakes corridor.
With Pinney’s retirement, Sebago assumed responsibility for K & K’s active project pipeline, client relationships, digital project records, business contact information and the use of the K & K name in ongoing client communications and marketing.
Sebago said it has already assigned its licensed surveyors and technical staff to active K & K projects and is prepared to assist new and returning clients throughout the region.
The acquisition strengthens Sebago’s professional surveying capacity in communities including Oakland, Belgrade Lakes, Waterville, Winslow, Vassalboro, Sidney, China, Fairfield, Rome and surrounding Kennebec County towns.
The area faces demand for licensed survey services amid a shortage of practicing professional land surveyors in Maine, according to a news release.
Access to Sebago services
The deal also gives clients and property owners in central Maine access to Sebago Technics’ resources, including additional licensed staff, modern CAD and survey technology, additional development services and the firm’s engineering and land surveying capabilities.
Pinney will provide transition assistance to Sebago, supporting client communications and project handoffs.
Sebago Technics ranks No. 7 among Maine’s largest engineering firms, according to the 2026 Mainebiz Book of Lists. At the time the firm was surveyed for the list, it had 21 licensed engineers in Maine, 135 Maine employees and 2024 revenue of $17 million
Founded in 1981 and headquartered at 75 John Roberts Road, South Portland, Sebago’s additional offices are in Sanford, Bridgton and Brunswick, serving public and private sector clients throughout Maine and northern New England. Services include civil engineering, landscape architecture, surveying, planning, transportation, environmental services and now structural engineering.
The company reached 100% employee-ownership in 2007. Last year, it grew its workforce by 25% and Lincoln/Haney Engineering Associates in Brunswick, which expanded the firm’s engineering capabilities to include structural engineering and strengthened its presence in midcoast Maine. In January, Kylie Mason was promoted to president and COO.
