South Portland engineering firm Sebago Technics Inc. is expanding its midcoast presence with the acquisition of Bath civil engineering firm Pine Tree Engineering.
The acquisition strengthens Sebago’s position in the midcoast region and expands its ability to serve municipalities, state agencies and private clients throughout Maine, according to a news release.
“Pine Tree Engineering has built an outstanding reputation over more than three decades, and we are proud to welcome their team into ours,” said Mark Adams, Sebago’s CEO.
Financial terms of the deal, which closed June 1, were not disclosed.
All but one of Pine Street’s employees joined Sebago, a spokesperson told Mainebiz.
The deal came a month after Sebago expanded its land surveying capabilities with the acquisition of K & K Land Surveyors Inc. in the Kennebec County town of Oakland.
Shared opportunity
Pine Tree primarily provides engineering and infrastructure services to Maine’s municipalities and state agencies.
Six Pine Tree professionals joined Sebago at its Brunswick office, bringing experience in civil and transportation engineering, computer-assisted design, permitting and related services.
Robert Prue, Pine Tree’s former president, has 40 years of civil engineering experience. He will remain with Sebago Technics through the transition.
“Joining Sebago Technics gives our team access to greater resources and broader expertise while allowing us to continue delivering the responsive, personal service our clients have always counted on,” Prue said.
Jeremy Prue, Pine Tree’s former vice president and Robert’s son, brings more than 15 years of transportation engineering experience gained on major projects in New York and Boston before returning to Maine. He will serve as a senior project manager with Sebago.

Expanded services
Sebago offers engineering, survey, landscape architecture, planning and permitting services to serving clients across Maine, with offices in South Portland, Brunswick, Bridgton and Sanford. With the Pine Tree acquisition, it now has 133 employees.
Pine Tree’s areas of expertise include transportation engineering, water and wastewater engineering, marine engineering, permitting, recreational facility design and construction services — capabilities that complement and deepen the services Sebago already provides.
Pine Tree’s client relationships include the state of Maine — including the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry and Inland Fisheries and Wildlife — as well as numerous Maine municipalities, including Norway, Bowdoinham, Phippsburg, Fryeburg, West Bath, Richmond, Oxford, Monmouth, Sabattus and Waldoboro.

Sebago Technics ranks No. 7 among Maine’s largest engineering firms, according to the 2026 Mainebiz Book of Lists. At the time the firm was surveyed for the list, it had 21 licensed engineers in Maine, 135 Maine employees and 2024 revenue of $17 million
Founded in 1981, the company reached 100% employee-ownership in 2007. Last year, it grew its workforce by 25%.
