The Maine Senate has voted to repeal a requirement for a feasibility study on a proposed east-west highway.
The Associated Press reported the Senate vote sends the bill to Gov. Paul LePage for consideration.
The Department of Transportation was ordered to conduct a feasibility study by the previous Legislature but that study was suspended due to a lack of information about the project.
The new proposal is the brainchild of Cianbro Corp. chairman and CEO Peter Vigue, who says the $2 billion private east-west toll road could boost economic development along its 220-mile course from Calais to Coburn Gore.
