Six of the 34 Shaw’s supermarkets in New Hampshire are slated to close by Sept. 2. The Associated Press reported that the supermarket chain’s parent company says the stores were underperforming and their closure does not indicate broader problems for the company.
Stores in Seabrook, Goffstown, Manchester, Tilton, West Lebanon and Keene are slated for closure in this latest round, which will affect nearly 450 workers at those stores. The company told the AP that those workers will be offered jobs at other Shaw’s locations when possible.
The closures follow an announcement earlier this month that six underperforming Shaw’s stores in Massachusetts and Rhode Island would close by early next month.
Shaw’s, which is owned by Cerberus Capital Management, has 22 stores in Maine that employ around 2,800 people.
