Shrimping season set at 152 days

New England shrimpers have an extra day at sea for the season that starts December 1, regulators said yesterday.

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission gave 152 shrimping days to harvesters in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, one day longer than the 2006 season, according to the Associated Press.

The commission also noted, however, that it may shorten the season in 2009 because it expects the shrimp population to decline, the AP said.
