Ellsworth city sewer customers will see an increase in their bills starting in April as the construction of a new $21 million wastewater plant and lower development numbers have caused the Ellsworth City Council to approve a 43% rate increase.
The unanimous vote will bring increases of between $309 and $338 to average industrial and commercial users. Additionally, the quarterly per-cubic-foot rate will increase from $5.61 to $8.03. That means the average residential customer will see an annual increase of $164.56.
“We have to bite the bullet and pay the piper,” said Ellsworth City Councilor Marc Blanchette at a city council meeting discussing the rate hike according to The Ellsworth American.
