York County has Maine’s second-highest median sales price for homes, but has priority billing on a national list.
Maine’s southern-most county ranks No. 3 on the website Pacaso’s list of top 10 markets with the biggest increases in second-home sales.
Pacaso, which tracks the buying and selling of luxury second homes, reported that York County had a 16% increase, year over year, in transactions of second homes. The average sale price was $2.075 million.
Cumberland County ranked No. 5 on the list, with a 14% increase and an average price of $1.7 million.
The list was topped by Rhode Island’s Newport County, whose transaction volume rose by 64%. Florida’s Volusia County, whose largest city is Daytona Beach, rose by 19% but also laid claim to the highest average price, at $4 million.

New England was well-represented on the list, with five of the 10 listings.
Pacaso, a technology-enabled real estate marketplace that helps people buy, co-own and sell luxury second homes, released its third annual “Top Second Home Markets Report” on Wednesday.
It identifies the leading luxury second-home markets for 2023 and introduces some markets to watch in 2024.
The report reveals the top 10 U.S. counties seeing the biggest annual increases in second-home transactions and the largest year-over-year appreciation for homes priced above $1 million.
