The Joint Commission, a nonprofit that accredits and certifies more than 20,500 health care organizations and programs in the United States, has recognized St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston as a 2013 “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures.”
The Lewiston Sun Journal reported that St. Mary’s was recognized in The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report, “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for heart attack, pneumonia and surgical care.
The Top Performer designation is based on a number of quality-related criteria, including:
• Achieving cumulative performance of 95% or above across all reported accountability measures;
• Achieving performance of 95% or above on every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and
• Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95% or above in which all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95% or above.
The Joint Commission’s report noted that 37%, or 1,224 Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting accountability measure performance data for 2013, were designated as Top Performer hospitals.
