State workers’ union rejoins AFL-CIO

The union representing 12,000 state workers in Maine has rejoined the AFL-CIO after a seven-year hiatus, bringing together two groups that combined represent more than 42,000 workers.

The state employee union announced that rejoining the federation of more than 150 local unions would allow for greater lobbying power in Augusta on issues like expanding Medicaid, which both organizations support.
