Maine boatyards are ready to expand, but they’re having trouble finding qualified workers, according to a new industry report.
The North Star Alliance, a federally-funded group that works to boost Maine’s marine businesses, yesterday released results of its survey of 99 Maine boat builders.
Survey respondents said they could add nearly 700 new jobs over the next two years, but that factors like a lack of skilled workers, high health insurance costs and rising waterfront property values could prevent that from happening.
